Many may know Leighton Meester as the fashion-forward Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl.

But almost two years after the popular CW show concluded, the 28-year-old is ready to tackle the music scene once again with a brand new folk-pop album.

Despite the disc being filled with more than a few sad songs, Meester is opening up to Noisey about her writing process alongside husband, Adam Brody.

"If you didn't have pain then you wouldn't have a record, a movie, or a book, or anything," she shared. "When I'm writing, I can't think about how it comes out. I just do what feels right."

And while Mr. and Mrs. Brody have no troubles bonding over music, both parties admit to having slightly different tastes.

"I think a lot of people do that," she admitted. "But I don't think that you have to have the same taste in a friendship or relationship—you have to have the same values." Awww!

Meester married Brody in a secret wedding ceremony in February 2014. Since the romantic day, the actress has had a new perspective on life.

"My values have shifted greatly in terms of what I find important," she shared with InStyle U.K. "It's my family, my friends and having a personal life. Those are the things that need nurturing."

Today, the singer known for tracks including "Good Girls Go Bad" and "Somebody to Love" is ready to showcase her voice once again.

But here's a warning to fans: The music won't exactly remind you of 'N Sync.

"It's not really my taste, but that's what people were into," she shared. "It was the worst, but I can appreciate it now for what it is…Now, I think Britney Spears and ' N Sync are better than some of the stuff I see."

We're pretty sure there's an XOXO needed after that statement!
