ShowtimeCarrie Mathison will remain on the job for another season of Showtime's Homeland. The cable network also announced critical darling The Affair will return for a new season in 2015.
"In its fourth season, Homeland has brilliantly reinvented itself. It continues to capture the attention of a devoted fan base, and has provided an enviable platform for the successful launch of The Affair," Showtime's David Nevins said in a statement. "With thought-provoking, relevant and addictive storylines, both series have been embraced, dissected and much debated week after week. We're excited to see more from these complex shows in 2015."
Homeland's fifth season will be 12 episodes. The Affair's second season will be 10.
So far, Homeland has been averaging 6 million weekly viewers across platforms for its fourth season. The Affair has had 3.9 weekly viewers on various platforms. Homeland stars Claire Danes in the Emmy-winning role of Carrie Mathison. Mandy Patinkin, Rupert Friend, Tracy Letts, Laila Robins and Nazanin Boniadi also star.
New drama The Affair tells the story of just that, an affair, from two different perspectives. The series hails from Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi and stars Ruth Wilson, Maura Tierney, Dominic West and Joshua Jackson. Prior to the show's premiere, ER veteran Tierney hinted that a second season could move away from the two main perspectives of season one.
"But I do believe if the show continues to next season…the viewpoints will expand. Not just to me, but to some of the other characters," she told E! News.
Homeland airs Sundays, 9 p.m. on Showtime with The Affair following at 10 p.m.
