Is it lights out for Tommy Chong on Dancing With the Stars?

Before last Monday night's show, fan favorite competitor Chong sustained a calf injury during rehearsals earlier that day. After dancing through the pain in not one but two high-energy dances, he seemed optimistic that his injury wouldn't keep him from the continuing on in the ABC reality hit's competition.

"It'll heal," Chong told E! News after the show. "It was me. I was dumb. I didn't drink enough water, so I got cramps. I'm a dancer and being around all the dancers, they've got more injuries than you can count. They just wrap on tape, get out there and do it, and I had to do it."

But as admirable as Chong's determination was last week, the Cheech & Chong star might not be able to push through the pain tonight.

Chong has now had two appointments at Stand Up MRI in Beverly Hills, E! News has confirmed. He has a tear in his calf and said that unless something dramatically improves, he will have to bow out of the competition, a source tells E! News. For now, his situation is being monitored closely and he will find out if he's cleared to perform before tonight's show.

The 76-year-old posted a video on Instagram on Sunday, which featured him getting an MRI to see if he has "any serious injuries to the calf." He captioned the video, "Making sure my leg is ready for the Quarter Finals tomorrow. Thank you for all the support #dwts @dancingabc."

Chong isn't the only dancer suffering from an injury this season. Pro dancer Witney Carson (Alfonso Ribeiro's professional partner) injured her back during dress rehearsals a few weeks ago and almost wasn't able to perform. But the couple went on to receive the highest score of the night, and are still frontrunners for the mirrorball trophy.

But pro dancer Karina Smirnoff couldn't continue performing after suffering an injury during rehearsals last month, although since her celebrity partner Randy Couture was eliminated from the ABC reality hit a few weeks prior to that, it didn't affect the competition.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
