Saturday Night Live star Michael Che isn't the only guy getting backlash for his response to the viral catcalling video sweeping the Internet!
Earlier today, CNN's Fredricka Whitfield was hosting a segment on the recent online video that illustrates the amount of verbal harassments a woman faces in one day while walking the streets of NYC (10 hours worth!). One of Whitfield's guests, self-proclaimed "bad boy" and dating manual author Steve Santagati, had a surprising take on the catcalling video and it's message about gender politics in our society.
"The bottom line is this, ladies: You would not care if all these guys were hot," Santagati said, much to the shock of Whitfield and female guest Amanda Seales. "They would be bolstering your self-esteem, bolstering your ego. There is nothing a woman loves to hear more than how pretty she is."
But the insensitive remarks didn't stop there. "It's just another example of a lot of feminists that have an a la cart attitude towards it, meaning you can do this, I want this sort of thing, but they take it too far," he continued. "It's kind of like, this thing bordered on The Boy Who Cried Wolf, like where's it gonna go next? You're telling me then that if I compliment you in the street it's some sort of abuse, no matter how I choose to do it?"
Santagati sarcastically suggested he wanted to start a "coalition against women who don't compliment men." The ridiculous comment left both Whitfield and Seales bewildered and almost at a loss for words, however, Seales insisted women don't like being yelled at and objectified while walking down the street.
"If you don't like it as a woman, turn around and tell them to shut up," Santagati insisted. "Stand up for yourself. Act like a strong woman in 2014."
"A woman got killed the other day for doing that in Detroit, actually," Seales said, referring to Mary Spears, a Detroit woman who was shot dead last month after refusing to give a man her phone number. "You sir, do not know what you're talking about."
"Then carry a gun!" Santagati declared.
Needless to say, Whitfield's and Seales' facial expressions in response to Santagati's arguments were priceless (and extremely appropriate). Check out the unbelievable video clip for yourself.
