Alert! Katharine McPhee is singing on Scorpion. This is not a drill!

The American Idol veteran and former Smash star is showing off her vocal chops and we've got your exclusive sneak peek at the magical moment above. You can take the woman out of the musical, but you can't take the music out of the woman! The song our ears are treated to is "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."

McPhee, who spent two seasons as Karen Cartwright on NBC's Smash and came in second during her American Idol season, stars opposite Elyes Gabel in the new hit CBS drama about a group of geniuses contracted to work with the US government to solve the nation's crises.

On Scorpion, McPhee plays Paige, a former waitress who becomes the team's project manager and basically their emotional liaison, helping them connect in ways they've never been able to. In next week's episode, "Risky Business," Kid Cudi (real name Scott Mescudi) guests as a gifted musician and Cliff "Method Man" Smith guest stars as a top music executive. The team asks Kid Cudi's character for help to solve the murder of a music blogger. That's where Paige comes in with a secret talent. A secret to her fellow Scorpion team members, but not to viewers!

"I did not suggest this," McPhee says in the video above. "Let's just be clear. Probably people think, ‘Kat McPhee was on the phone with her agents going, "Katharine needs to sing on Scorpion."' That did not happen. I did not demand any singing on the show…It's really clever and sweet and non-cheesy the way they wrote it into the story."

CBS already gave Scorpion a full season order. The drama about real-life Walter O'Brien is pulling in strong numbers on Monday nights. Robert Patrick, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jadyn Wong and Ari Stidham also star.

Scorpion airs Mondays, 9 p.m. on CBS.
