Kerry Washington is having a really, really good year. And it's not over yet!

The Scandal star is Allure's November cover girl, and the issue hits newsstands October 28. But until then, Allure is giving a sneak peek at what went down behind the scenes.

Watch the video below to see Kerry go makeup-free while she discusses the inspiration behind the magazine shoot, her favorite outfit from the day and more.

It's fitting that Kerry is makeup-free in the behind the scenes video, because the 37-year-old star posed fresh-faced on Allure's cover, Let's just say the green-eyed monster called jealousy is rearing its head, because we are so envious right now. It's just unfair that she looks that fabulous without a stitch of makeup!

But even though Kerry isn't wearing a smoky eye, she's donning some pretty glamorous getups inside the magazine. In the behind the scenes video Kerry explains that the inspiration for the shoot was old pictures of Hollywood actresses in their homes. "Sort of like a peek into their life moments," she said. "I thought that would be fun. I feel like there is so much wonderful goodness in my life, both professionally and personally, and it would be nice to feel like the shoot is a peek into the real me."

Her favorite ensemble of the day? The Zac Posen gown. "That gown is just a work of art," she said of the stunning, full-skirted dress. "It's extraordinary, and it's classic Zac Posen; so beautiful. I felt really special in it."

Kerry also dished on her beauty tip, which is simple: find a great dermatologist. "I try not to be too high maintenance when it comes to beauty routines," she said. "But I've had eczema my whole life, so I've always gone to a dermatologist."

As for her beauty icon? It's someone very close to her. "My mother is a huge beauty inspiration for me, partly because she's always emphasized the idea of inner beauty being equally, if not more, important than outer beauty."

And on a lighter note, Kerry had a quick quip when asked if she ever regrets a certain hairstyle or beauty choice from the past. "Life is too short. No regrets. Live in the moment." And then she added with a laugh, "If it looked good when you did it, who cares if it was in the '80s?"
