Does size matter when it comes to shooting love scenes with Kristen Stewart?

British actor Nicholas Hoult, 24, plays the Twilight alum's love interest in the new dystopian sci-fi film Equals. He recently joked about the logistics of filming intimate scenes with the actress, who is several inches shorter than him.

"I based the character loosely on Quasimodo at times," he said in an interview with MTV that was posted on Thursday, referring to Victor Hugo's (and Disney's) The Hunchback of Notre Dame title character.

"It's a love story, but it's kind of like how they shot The Hobbit," added the actor, who the outlet listed as being 6'3".

Hoult and Stewart, who is 24 and reportedly 5'5", filmed Equals this past summer in Japan and Singapore. The actors appeared together with director Drake Doremus and producer Michael Pruss at an event promoting the movie in Tokyo in August.

Whlie the movie was in production, Hoult and Stewart also hung out together off the set, eating sushi at a fish market in Japan and zip-lining in Singapore. They also took the time to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge charity campaign, which went viral and was completed by scores of celebrities.

Also in August, it was revealed that Hoult and his real-life girlfriend, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, his co-star in the new X-Men movies, had split following an on-again, off-again relationship. The 24-year-old is reportedly 5'9".

Months earlier, Lawrence addressed rumors of alleged jealousy toward Stewart. She told Marie Claire in an interview posted in May, "There was something in a magazine, and I was like, 'Oh, my God, that's hilarious,' because Kristen and I are friends."

"I actually texted her a picture of it and was like, 'Just so you know, this is absolutely true,'" Lawrence joked.

Equals' director had revealed earlier this year that Lawrence was also given the movie's script to read and that it later "became evident" that Hoult and Stewart would have "great chemistry."

Equals has been dubbed an updated version of the 1956 film 1984, which is based on George Orwell's famous dystopian novel, and also stars Memento's Guy Pearce, 47, and Jacki Weaver, 67, who was nominated for Oscars for her performances in Animal Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook. Lawrence was the main female star in the latter film and won her first Academy Award for it.

Equals is set for release in 2015, more than two years after the final Twilight movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2, hit theaters.

Hoult is not a Twi-Hard. He told MTV he's seen the first film, but caught "bits of all the others" and "not necessarily in order."

And Stewart's 28-year-old former co-star, onscreen love interest and real-life ex-boyfriend, Robert Pattinson, is slightly shorter than Hoult—he's reportedly 6'1".
