If you need job or life advice, look no further than Jimmy Fallon.

The 40-year-old host of The Tonight Show opened up about his biggest life lessons in an interview with Men's Journal, and shared a few tips that he's learned in his successful career.

For starters, Fallon says that he started young and often did impersonations of famous Saturday Night Live skits with his sister, Gloria.

Jay Leno chimed in with some bits of wisdom and explained how it's way better to be a listener than someone who just likes to hear themselves talk (there's always one, right?).

"Most people in show business think they know everything," he shared. "They don't really listen to the other person. They just wait for the other person to stop talking.

"Respectful is the best word I can use for Jimmy. Jimmy gets it…He's not a comedy writer. He worked little crappy clubs, dragging the guitar around and having drunks throw s--t at you. And that's why he and I have a bit of a bond. It's almost a father-son kind of thing."

Fallon also gushed that the old adage is true: If at first your don't succeed, try again.

When recalling a 1997 gig at New York's Comic Strip, he shared how he felt like he "bombed" while Lorne Michaels was in the audience.

"I could tell. My manager could tell. This might have been my lowest point ever."

But that night didn't slow him down one bit and just a little over a year later, Fallon was in front of Michaels again for a role on the coveted NBC sketch comedy show.

(E! and NBC are both part of the same NBCUniversal family.)
