Hollywood power duo Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's honeymoon was anything but conventional, but at least they were by the sea.

After exchanging vows, the Oscar winners and parents of six spent their post-wedding vacay in beautiful Malta, filming their new movie, titled...yes, By the Sea. They both star in the film, which marks their first onscreen collaboration since the 2005 spy flick Mr. and Mrs. Smith, where they fell in love. Jolie is also the director and screenwriter of By the Sea, which is set in France in the '70s and is about a former dancer and her husband, an American writer, who travel together and see their relationship challenged.

And how's this for a challenge? The two began filming the movie in mid-August, pausing days later to...get married! Pitt and Jolie—who have been together for about nine years and are parents to Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, 9, and Shiloh, 8 and twins Knox and Vivienne, 6—wed on Aug. 23. Then they were back on the set of By the Sea, with Jolie back at the helm.

"Our dysfunctional honeymoon," Pitt joked to USA Today. "Yeah, it was our choice. It's been fun. It's been challenging but really fun."

The actor made his comments at the premiere of his latest movie, Fury, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. The war film is set for release on Friday (check out reviews).

"She's good," Pitt said about his wife. "She knows what she's doing."

By the Sea is set for release next year and is the third film directed by Jolie, who made her big screen directorial and screenwriting debut with the 2011 war movie In the Land of Blood and Honey. She also helmed Unbroken, which is about the late World War II hero and Olympic runner Louis Zamperini and was written by Oscar-winning filmmaking duo Joel Coen and Ethan Coen. The movie is set for release on Dec. 25, Christmas Day.

Jolie and Pitt were spotted in Malta in June, along with a security guard. They were photographed on the island of Gozo, which is one of the filming locations for By the Sea and contains some of Europe's most beautiful and secluded beaches, with sandy shores and crystal-clear waters.

Parts of the 2013 zombie movie World War Z, which Pitt starred in and co-produced, were also filmed in Malta. A sequel to the film, the actor's most successful movie with approximately $540 in worldwide box office sales, is being developed.
