Ben Affleck has some big shoes to fill playing Batman, and no one knows that more than Michael Keaton.

The Birdman star recently sat down with us to weigh in on the controversial casting.

"My guess is he's a smart guy. I don't know Ben, but he's been around long enough to see all this stuff happen. My guess is he's laughing [at the criticism], he's laughing and I hope he's going, 'Shut up!'"

Keaton explained how even though some weren't too keen on the idea of Affleck as the Caped Crusader, he'll do a perfectly fine job.

"The truth is, he'll be fine. They do it in a way now where it's kind of harder to fail I think," the actor shared.

"You barely see him anywhere and it's really about the car and the thing...So he's kind of, in my mind, safe. He's good, he'll be great."

Affleck himself addressed the frenzy surrounding the casting news in an interview with Entertainment Weekly over the summer.

"Before I took the role, Warner Bros. gave me a bunch of past reactions to casting and said, Are you sure you want to get into this? This is part and parcel of these movies now. There's a lot of active fans with a lot of opinions.' To me, having been through a certain amount of that, it doesn't really… Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I wouldn't have taken the part if I didn't trust my instincts in terms of the filmmaking."

He continued, "I think Chris Terrio wrote a terrific script. Zack [Snyder]'s a great visual director. And there's an interesting take. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think I could do it. I have the benefit of a lot of that understanding. But also, everyone is entitled to their opinion."
