New York Fashion Week, Here I Come!

I've taken out every black and gray article of clothing from my closet. As I stare at the array of clothes scattered across my West Hollywood apartment, models Alek Wek and Sasha Pivovarova are conducting a lighting ceremony in the lobby of the Empire State Building.

By the time I join the girls in New York tonight, the iconic edifice will be illuminated orange, purple and red to honor Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Bryant Park. That's right, Hollywood Party Girl is hitting the Big Apple.

My flight leaves in four hours and I still need to pack. I say goodbye to my yellow frocks, strappy gold stilettos and white accessories that carried me through the soirees of summer, and load my suitcase with fall essentials for NYC.

  • Gray Botkier Bryant hobo: The purse was inspired by style icon Joy Bryant, and the moniker is the perfect carryall for Bryant Park (where all the stylish action takes place). Plus, gray is all the rage this season.
  • High-waisted BCBG black pencil skirt: I'm planning to wear this to my first show, BCBG, obvi. It works for day with a plain tee and at night, paired with a silk blouse. Even better? It hides my stomach, which will help with the all-you-can-drink-backstage champagne bloat.
  • London Sole black patent ballet slippers: Sure, Fifth Avenue types will be flitting from show to show in their sky-high heels. But most places in L.A. have valet, so my tootsies won't be able to handle walking in stilettos for seven days straight!
  • Betsey Johnson black platform Mary Janes: Okay, I can't wear flats every minute.
  • Lia Sophia jewelry: I'm not used to wearing black all the time, so I need something to brighten my look. I stocked up on the jewels at the line's clambake in Malibu—their art deco style will let me bring some Hollywood to the NYC nightlife.
  • Four black dresses, seven black tees, two pairs of black opaque tights...get the point?
  • Laura Mercier True Red lip pencil and sheer gloss: A cherry mouth is back. Plus, pencil lasts much longer than lipstick. Finally, there's some color in my life!

Now it's time to throw everything in my suitcase and jet off to LAX (the airport, not the nightclub). Party Girl, get ready to meet Fashion Diva!

Make sure to check back regularly for a recap of the best looks, hottest parties and all the backstage buzz. I'll be blogging daily from NYC's Fashion Week in this column and on mystyle.com. Plus, a special gallery featuring front-row fashionistas and fabulous runway looks is coming soon.
