Charlize Theron is taking direction from her beau Sean Penn in their upcoming flick, The Last Face.

The famous duo was spotted filming their project together in the actress' home country of South Africa over the weekend.

And she certainly seems to be OK with letting her love take the lead, as he's only working behind the camera as the movie's director instead of alongside the Oscar-winning beauty.

The two were seen shooting on a busy street in Cape Town, with several crew members and a slew of extras on standby.

Theron donned a relatively low-key look for the day—tousled hair, a blue knit shirt and barely there makeup.

She appeared somber throughout the day on set, however, but in good spirits as Penn spoke with her about the scenes at hand.

Little has been announced so far regarding the couple's first project together, but what we do know is that Javier Bardem and Blue Is the Warmest Color's Adèle Exarchopoulos have signed on to star alongside Theron.

The film focuses on the director of an international aid organization in Liberia (played by Theron) who complicates her work by getting romantically involved with a relief doctor (Bardem).

The two quickly become at odds with their views on how to solve, if not contain, the conflict around them in the war-torn country, and their relationship begins to disintegrate as quickly as it began.

Theron and Penn began dating late last year after being spotted out on the town together on several occasions.

The Mad Max: Fury Road star has never been married. Penn was married to Madonna for four years in the 1980s and divorced Robin Wright in 2010 after 14 years of marriage.
