We've got an exclusive first look at Lifetime's upcoming TV movie, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B!

In the new trailer, 23-year-old Nickelodeon star Alexandra Shipp portrays the late singer Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash back in August 2001 at the young age of 22.

"It takes more than some hot producer to create a superstar," Aaliyah's mother says to her at the beginning of the trailer. "It takes the right artist."

"You realize what you got in this girl?" one record producer says as Shipp shows off her Aaliyah-inspired dance moves. "There's gonna be nobody like her," another says.

Shipp then goes into a fierce dance sequence surrounded by a team of backup dancers. She then takes the stage to belt out one of Aaliyah's hits before greeting swarms of fans to sign autographs. The whole video montage is set to Iggy Azalea's "Goddess."

The script for the biopic was based on the Christopher Farley book, Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, which follows Aaliyah's journey from Star Search to her rise to her fame and, finally, her tragic passing.

Last month, fans got their first look at Shipp as Aaliyah in the form of a Twitter posting from Lifetime. The channel shared a photo of Shipp singing in a recording studio with the caption, "She was the princess of R&B and now her story is being told. #AaliyahMovie premieres Saturday, November 15."

Lifetime announced back in July that Shipp would be portraying the music star after original casting choice Zendaya dropped out of the project.

In an interview with E! News, Zendaya said she got "lots of hate" after landing the role. "I had my process with that and I think I just wanted to wish my love and luck onto the next woman because it's not easy to take on that role. Especially with all the things that I dealt with, I don't want her to have to deal with that. I feel like I'm on her side," she dished.

Tune in to E! News tonight at 7 and 11:30 p.m. for more scoop on the upcoming Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B TV movie!
