Stella McCartney isn't exactly synonymous with controversy, but recently the British fashion designer has come under fire for posting a photo of a model on her Instagram account.

McCartney posted an image of a model wearing one of her summer 2015 designs with the caption, "Worn well! X Stella." But the very thin appearance of the model struck a nerve with many readers who felt the designer was sending a wrong message about body image with this post.

The backlash was immediate, and commenters started voicing their disappointment right away. One wrote, "Appalling image," and another wrote, "Shame on you, Stella. I thought you designed with real women in mind."

Stella McCartney is known not only for her celebrity-adored designs, but she's also famous for her altruism and only creating environmentally-friendly, vegan clothes and accessories. Because of this, fans were especially shocked at her Instagram post.

Not long after, McCartney and her team took the photo down and replaced it with a picture of model Malaika Firth wearing the same tank top. Commenters reacted positively to the new image, writing, "Ah yes! I smiled when I saw what you did Stella. Thank you." And another said, "Much better!"

Additionally, McCartney released a statement addressing the issue head on and expressing remorse for offending her followers: "We should have been more mindful…It was a quick snap done backstage that was misleading. We listened to our followers and we took it down and replaced it. We can only apologize if we offended anyone."

What do you think of the photo? Are you glad she replaced it with a new one?
