Jessica Chastain may be an Oscar-nominated Hollywood star.
But in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar U.K., the 37-year-old actress admits that she hates being the center of everyone's attention.
"Probably there are some people who feel great about themselves and don't second-guess anything they say or do or wear," she tells the publication. "But that's just not me."
Instead, the Zero Dark Thirty star stays focused on keeping a heavy workload and doing her best each and every day.
During a recent break from filming, Chastain experienced a serious lack of fulfillment when not engrossed in a major project. As a result, she experienced a wide variety of emotions.
"[It felt] a little bit like grief and I started to feel really negative about myself, down on who I am, and then I realized it's because I've had so much time away from me that I don't really know what I like to do any more," she explained in the magazine's annual art issue. "I'm out of it now, but there was this feeling of being sad or depressed…wanting to go to another project."
Luckily, the actress has a full-plate ahead of her including the release of Interstellar. Featuring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, the film brings a group of explorers together with a goal to save humanity from the changing world.
In addition, Chastain heated up the big screen with James McAvoy in the recently released flick, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. The romantic drama, that is shot from three different perspectives (hers, his, and theirs) is already starting to receive some serious Oscar buzz
"I don't know what I'd do if I wasn't acting," she told the magazine. "It doesn't mean I have to be in movies or have success…I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have this form of expression because it offers me a freedom I don't have in my personal life."
