Guess who's the most Wanted lifeguard on the West Coast right now?!

Max George showed off both his swimming skills and his grace under pressure this week when he raced out to save a young boy from drowning in the ocean, a source exclusively tells E! News.

The British boy-band heartthrob was enjoying a day at the beach in Santa Monica, Calif., with two pals on Monday afternoon. They were splashing around in the water, about 100 feet from the shore, when they saw a boy who looked to be about 10 years old seemingly losing his battle with a riptide.

We're told that George reacted instantly, swimming to the boy's rescue and getting him safely back to shore—holding him up above the water all the way!—where a lifeguard took over and attended to the youngster.

Talk about your eventful days at the beach.

And with that, the 26-year-old Manchester native has joined the ranks of the celebrity-hero army, that elite squad of stars that includes the likes of Tom CruiseRyan Gosling and Zoe Saldana, who have proven that they can think quickly on their feet—and not just while remembering their lines.

"The waves at Santa Monica are gruesome sometimes!" George humbly tweeted yesterday, apparently reflecting on what happened.
