It's no secret Bill Clinton is currently "on watch" for his grandchild to arrive, and in a new interview with ABC News, the 42nd President of the United States is opening up about his hopes and dreams for his future grandchild, whom daughter Chelsea Clinton will soon welcome into the world.

"I want them to get up every day and look at the world with wonder and reverence," the 68-year-old politician told George Stephanopoulos at the 2014 Clinton Global Initiative in NYC. "I want them to respect everyone they meet, whatever their background."

The former POTUS and wife Hillary Clinton were joined by their very pregnant daughter on Monday at the 8th Annual Citizen Awards in New York City, where the erstwhile Governor of Arkansas not only revealed his daughter's due date, saying, "I hope by the first of October, I'll be a grandparent," but he also shared that Chelsea and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky, have chosen not to find out the baby's gender.

Yet Stephanopoulos wasn't quite convinced of the later fact when he sat down to chat with Clinton in the Big Apple and asked him what he wants to teach his new grandchild.

"I want my grandson..." he said before pausing, "Or granddaughter," at which point the GMA host interjected and exclaimed with a laugh, "I thought we got some news there for a second."

"No, no, no," Clinton replied, insisting the family is still in the dark when it comes to the baby's gender. "I'm proud of my son-in-law and my daughter for not wanting to know."

The former commander in chief also said he wants the bundle-of-joy-to-be to "really love being alive. And when they grow up, I want them to believe they have certain obligations to people who don't have all the opportunities they'll have."

Meanwhile, Bill's better half reiterated those same sentiments when she spoke at the Democratic National Committee's Women's Leadership forum last Friday, where she opened up about the baby's impending arrival and how it's only deepened her passion for her country.

"Now I've been thinking a lot about family, because you know I'm on grandbaby watch and I think a lot about this new member of our family and what he or she can look forward to," she explained. "Whether you're the grandchild of a president or the grandchild of a janitor, whether you're born in a city or in a small rural village—no matter who you are, you have the right to inherit the American dream."

Chelsea and her husband announced in April that they "are so thrilled" to be expecting their first child in the fall.

Bill later tweeted that he was "excited to add a new line to my Twitter bio...grandfather-to-be! @hillaryclinton and I are so happy for Chelsea and Marc!"

Can't wait to meet the little one!
