After his team's victory over the Denver Broncos in overtime, the Seattle Seahawks cornerback took advantage of the feel-good moment and proposed to girlfriend Jessica Martinez right in the middle of the field.
"She said yes!" Shead happily shared a photo of himself with his ring-flashing fiancée after he had popped the question, offering up a Simon G. solitaire round engagement ring with pave diamonds on the band.
After he had showered and dressed in jeans and a button-down shirt, the 26-year-old football player from Palmdale, Calif., led Martinez onto the 50-yard line at CenturyLink Field and got down on one knee as family and friends he had assembled for the occasion looked on.
"Will you marry me Jessica?" flashed on the scoreboard and Bruno Mars' "Marry You" played in the background, according to Seattle's KIRO-TV.
"I was very shocked," Martinez told KIRO anchor and "Voice of the Seahawks Steve Raible.
"Football is what brought me to Washington, for me to meet her, so I think this is a big part of our relationship," added Shead, who joined the Seahawks in 2012.
"Congrats to @dshead24 and his new fiance Jessica! 50 yard line proposal... she said yes. Entire #LOB there to celebrate," the team tweeted.
As anyone who follows the NFL (or who didn't until two weeks ago) knows, the league will take all of the heartwarming stories it can get these days.
