Maksim Chmerkovskiy won't be competing this season on Dancing With the Stars, so there won't be that issue when Julianne Hough takes a seat as the newest member of the judging panel on Monday.
But despite that drama going out the window, there is the interesting added element of sister judging brother when Derek Hough takes the floor with partner Bethany Mota.
"I think I view Derek more as a friend than even a brother...We were more like teammates than like bickering brother and sister," Julianne said during a sit-down on E! News airing Friday. "I'm honestly just as close to Mark [Ballas], and Cheryl [Burke] and Karina Smirnoff...For me going on the show and judging my brother is just like judging anybody else—plus, I judge him every day," she cracked.
Still, Julianne and Derek are pretty joined at the hip these days...
Responding to a clip from an interview Cheryl and season 19 partner Antonio Sabato Jr. gave recently in which Cheryl playfully warns Julianne to not play favorites because "I know where you live," the former DWTS pro laughed.
"Actually, she does know where I live because I'm rooming with my brother right now!" Julianne laughed. The 26-year-old explained that she's redoing her house, so she naturally bunked with Derek.
E! News' Catt Sadler and Jason Kennedy also had to ask, of course, about Julianne's current beau, professional hockey player Brooks Laich of the Washington Capitals. Specifically: Does he dance?!
