If Married With Children can spawn a spin-off, Ugly Betty surely could at least do a reunion show, don't you think?

"I would love to," says Salma Hayek, who produced the series starring America Ferrera.

Even though Betty has "such a special place in my heart," Hayek sadly said she doesn't see a reunion happening anytime soon.

I caught up with the Oscar nominee at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her labor of love, an animated adaptation of poet Kahlil Gibran's bestseller The Prophet.

It's told through eight chapters, each directed by a different director.

"I had a vision for something that I thought was original, to have the story with different chapters," Hayek said. "I love breaking the rules. It always gives a little extra strength."

She was intent on creating something for all ages. "I'm always doing too many things like most of us today so at night sometimes I don't want to think and I find that I'm watching films just because I want them to entertain me and I want to escape," Hayek said.

She continued to explain, "I wish I did more things or I spent some of that time meditating, doing yoga or doing some of the things I know I need. So I had this concept of making a film that was entertaining, that you can watch with your family. It's so hard to find a movie that you can all enjoy and talk about."

The Prophet includes voice by Hayek, Liam Neeson, John Krasinski and Quvenzhané Wallis.

Hayek didn't necessarily enjoy being a producer on the project. "I don't really love it," she admitted. "But sometimes I really want a film to be made or I have an idea and the only way you can get it through is by  producing it."

Directing, however, is something she wants to do more of. She made her directing debut back in 2003 with Showtime's The Maldonado Miracle, but has yet to helm anything else.

"I was producing something with someone and they said, 'You're not a producer, you're not even an actor. You're a director,'" Hayek remembers. "He offered it to me and…I didn't even like the script that much until we got a chance to fix. And then I did it and thought, 'How come this never occurred to me to do this?'"

Maybe directing an Ugly Betty reunion could be next?

Fingers crossed.
