Lindsay Lohan is getting ready for a bittersweet Easter.

The actress, accompanied by best pal Samantha Ronson, boarded a private jet Wednesday and headed east to her native Long Island, where Lohan plans to pay a visit to her terminally ill grandfather, E! News has learned.

Lohan cleared her calendar in Los Angeles, where she's working on a new album and prepping a new film, so she could spend time with paternal granddad Richard Lohan, currently in the intensive care unit at the North Shore University Hospital in Long Island.

Her father, Michael Lohan, called Lindsay last weekend to let her know that her 73-year-old grandfather was struggling with colon cancer that has apparently spread to his lungs.

"Right now, he's really been broken down by this disease," Michael Lohan told E! News.

Lindsay spoke briefly to the elder Lohan by telephone on Wednesday, promising to make time to see him while she was home for the Easter holiday. Lindsay will be splitting her time at home visiting her divorced parents, Dina and Michael.

"We're going to get together, and I'm very sure we'll drive over to visit him," Michael Lohan said, adding that he hopes Lindsay will bring along her 11-year-old brother, Cody, and 14-year-old sister, Ali.

"I'm sure that will make him happy."
