Jimmy Kimmel Asks Ex-Girlfriend Sarah Silverman About Her Current Boyfriend Michael Sheen

"I don't think I ever really knew what love was," the comic jokes

The last time Sarah Silverman appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in November 2013, she came armed with a box of her ex-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel's belongings. The comic and the late-night host broke up in July 2008 after five years of dating. The funny duo got back together briefly, only to break up again in March 2009.

It was the first time Silverman had been on Kimmel's show since he married Molly McNearney.

Kimmel invited the Masters of Sex star to appear on his show Thursday, both to honor Joan Rivers and to get some payback. He referred to Silverman's acceptance speech at the Emmy Awards, in which she thanked her boyfriend by saying, "Mark Flanagan at Largo, thank you for making Largo my home and for introducing me to my love, Mr. Fancy Pants Sheen." After showing the clip, Kimmel told his ex, "I believe that about half of America thinks you're dating Charlie Sheen." (She's dating actor Michael Sheen, FYI.)

"That would be ridiculous," Silverman said. Kimmel then referenced her E! News interview, saying, "It would be ridiculous, but it's also ridiculous to have a pot pipe in your purse on the way to the Emmys."

Silverman wasn't worried about people mistaking her men. "There's only one Fancy Pants," she said.

She called her boyfriend "the best at what he does," prompting laughter from the audience. Kimmel joked, "I think they think you're making fun of me." All jokes aside, Silverman said, "I'm so happy to have him be a part of my life and to get to be a part of his life. I don't think I ever really knew what love was."

The friendly ribbing didn't end there. "I don't think I've ever really been in love before, I realized," she told Kimmel, who recently became a dad for the third time. "You know what I mean? And you guys have so much common! He starred in Frost/Nixon and you were the fat guy on Win Ben Stein's Money."

Kimmel then asked if Sheen had met Silverman's family.

"I brought him home to New Hampshire recently," she said," and I met his family. They're from Wales."

"They don't have Jews in Wales, I'm pretty sure. His mother—I think she thinks I can grant wishes," Silverman said. "I'm like, 'That's leprechauns. Jews don't have pots of gold. We just like pot and gold.'"

Kimmel also asked which boyfriend Silverman's father prefers. "He turned to me and said, 'Jimmy who?'" Silverman said, adding that Sheen is her dad's "new best friend" and that the honor is "no small feat."

Their talk turned back to the Emmys, with Kimmel saying he "knew" Silverman would win. After showing a clip from her red carpet interview with Giuliana Rancic, Kimmel asked why she would reveal the contents of her purse on national TV. "I didn't know there was going to be a Clutch Cam...and I have no shame about it. It's not a big deal to me. Pot is legal here and I like to have a little puff-a-roonie at the end of the night," Silverman explained. "It's so crazy that it was some big bananas big deal that I had a little pot thing, and meanwhile you have to walk around the Emmys in a sea of drunken, terrifying, scary people. You know I'm afraid of drunk people!...But I had a little puff at the end of the night like a lady."

Kimmel decided to go through Silverman's clutch himself. "Did your new boyfriend buy this for you?"
