UPDATE: ABC confirms that both Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace have officially joined The View as new co-hosts.

"These are powerful and accomplished women from different walks of life who have had amazing personal and professional experiences. Each brings incredible perspective and information to the table," said Bill Wolff, executive producer. "This mix of smart, vibrant and energetic women is unlike anything else on daytime television."

A source also tells E! News that the daytime newcomers were the particular "favorites of Rosie O., Whoopi and producers." The "choice was basically unanimous."

The View just scored another inimitable voice!

Rosie Perez has signed on to join Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell next season as a full-time co-host on the ABC morning show, E! News confirmed Wednesday.

The 49-year-old author and actress will be filling one of the seats vacated by Sherri Shepherd, who left the show last month after seven years, and Jenny McCarthy, who exited after one season. (Not to mention show co-founder Barbara Walters, who retired in May.)

A bit of a surprise, right? Perez guest-hosted on Feb. 28, but otherwise was not one of the names that has frequently been in the mix to succeed the outgoing co-hosts.

And as for the ladies whose names have been frequently mentioned, a source tells us that the final spot is likely either going to political commentator Nicolle Wallace or former Good Day L.A. and Extra host Lauren Sanchez.

Wallace has "tons of experience in that arena and can handle any topic," a source told E! News last month. "Same with Lauren."

Sanchez, who has also appeared in a number of films, is "super experienced" and "had great chemistry with Whoopi and Rosie."

ABC has repeatedly declined comment about possible additions to The View.

We were told that the potential new co-hosts participated in chemistry tests in front of an audience of about 75 people. The candidates were paired up randomly and asked to show off their gift of gab.

So, congrats to Perez, good luck to the others, and we'll see some new faces when The View returns Sept. 15!
