So much for the jam-band vibe of festivals past.

Metallica and Pearl Jam will coheadline the 2008 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, taking place June 12 through 15 in Manchester, Tennessee, organizers announced Tuesday.

Others artists on the decidedly eclectic lineup include Kanye West, Jack Johnson, B.B. King, Death Cab for Cutie, Sigur Rós, My Morning Jacket, the Allman Brothers Band, the Raconteurs, Willie Nelson and many more.

Despite rampant rumors to the contrary, Led Zeppelin was not announced as one of the bands on the bill, though the all-female tribute band Lez Zeppelin will appear.

Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant is slated to put in an appearance at the festival though, performing alongside his Raising Sand collaborator, Alison Krauss.

The revelation of this year's lineup raised hackles on message boards devoted to the event, with many fans protesting the hard-rock flair Metallica is expected to bring to the typically laid-back festival.

"Metallica is going to bring fat drunk metal heads that I (as well as my friends) do not want to share a 700 acre farm with," one poster on the official Bonnaroo message board wrote. "What happened to the art-loving, head-tripper hippie jam bands that we all love to float around to?"

In contrast, Superfly Productions President Jonathan Mayers called the year's diverse lineup "one of our strongest."

"We're in a position to help introduce people to new things and hopefully the audience is open-minded and will discover what's out there," Mayers told Billboard.

With over 100 bands and counting on the bill, the festival certainly aims to offer something for everyone.

Aside from the music, a comedy tent will feature performances by Janeane Garofalo, Zach Galifianakis, Mike Birbiglia, Jim Norton, Brian Posehn and David Cross.

Another tent will offer yoga classes for concertgoers looking for a change of pace, while a Kidz Jam tent will cater to younger fans.

Tickets for the festival go on sale Saturday, exclusively through the official Bonnaroo website.
