After turning up the heat, it was time for Idris Elba to cool off, for a good cause.

The 41-year-old British hottie, The Wire alum and Emmy-nominated Luther star took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on a Jimmy Kimmel Live! episode that aired on Tuesday. He was also asked about a recent "mic wire" photo that made headlines and launched a tremendous number of stares and shares online.

Wearing a black suit, the actor, who is promoting his latest movie, No Good Deed, got doused with freezing water on stage and topped off the charity stunt with a little dance, to the delight of the studio audience and all women everywhere.

Elba had made headlines last month over a paparazzi pic that was taken on the set of the new film and showed him sporting a mysterious bulge in his pants. He later tweeted that it was a microphone wire and joked about it.

He repeated the microphone wire alibi explanation on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

"I mean, I just don't want to scare the world," he told host Jimmy Kimmel.

"It looks like God loves you very much," Kimmel said.

"When I saw it on CNN, I was like, 'OK, this has to stop,'" Elba added.

Kimmel then posed a legitimate question.

"Why are you mic-ing that part of your body?" he asked. "Does it talk?"

Over the past month, scores of celebrities have taken on the Ice Bucket Challenge, which is aimed at raising awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease. Elba nominated Bradley CooperTaraji P. Henson, his No Good Deed co-star, and a choice he dubbed "the big one"—Prince Harry
