Mariah Carey Steps Out in Public for First Time Since Marriage Drama Made Headlines, Nick Cannon Seen Leaving Their NYC Apartment

Well, Mariah Carey looks perfectly fine. And in good humor, in fact!

The Emotions artist was spotted yesterday out and about in New York City, the first sighting of her in public since her and Nick Cannon's marital troubles started making increasingly dramatic headlines last week, culminating in Nick releasing comments that confirmed there was trouble afoot after six years of marriage and they had been living apart.

Carey was wearing her big signature butterfly ring on her wedding ring finger instead of her engagement rock, but the butterfly (or nothing) is all Mariah has been photographed wearing since Feb. 18, the last sighting of her wedding band.

Dressed in a royal-purple, Grecian-cut maxidress and high-heeled sandals, Carey was accompanied by a male pal, or bodyguard perhaps, on a shopping trip to American Apparel. According to an eyewitness, the two were laughing and the pop diva even stopped to pose for pictures with some fans who approached her. 

Maybe her hubby's apology put her in better spirits, considering she was "seriously pissed" that he spoke out without her?

A source tells E! News that Cannon "has apologized to her for speaking out about the divorce. He acknowledged that it was not cool."

The America's Got Talent host was also spotted yesterday leaving the NYC apartment that they at least used to share after a brief visit. The 33-year-old entertainer looked super-casual in a sweatshirt and patterned slouchy pants, his look topped off with a bright red baseball camp that read "SAVED." He was not wearing a wedding band.

It's highly likely, however, that Carey and Cannon had much interaction if she was home when he was visiting.

An insider told us that Mariah has limited their communication to "text only" right now.

"She does not want to speak with him as long as he's using the situation for what she believes is personal and professional gain," the source said. "She also does not want to see him." When he visits the children, twins Monroe and Moroccan, she does not see him, the source added.

There's a report circulating that the estranged duo had dinner together out in Tribeca on Friday night, but that has not been confirmed.
