We did it, The Vampire Diaries fans.

Well, almost. We've almost made it through the long and torturous summer, waiting to find out just what on earth happened in the emotionally devastating season five finale.

Did Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) really die? How will Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Wesley), Jeremy (Steven McQueen), Caroline (Candice Accola) and everyone else handle their losses? Can The Vampire Diaries really go on without two of its biggest stars?!

While we still have to wait until the season-six premiere on Oct. 2 to find out those answers, we finally, finally, finally have a clue as to what's coming up this season, thanks to The CW releasing the very first trailer with new footage.

So drop everything and watch the promo below right now!

Looks like no one will be taking the loss of their friends/significant others very well. Jeremy's hitting the bottle, Elena's on drugs(?!), Stefan's totally given up on getting Damon back...this is not a healthy bunch.

At least Caroline still has a good head on her shoulders (because, of course) and will try to help get Elena clean! We always knew we could rely on Caroline.

And for those of you freaking out over the possibility of not seeing Somerhalder and Graham on the show since they're dead (and gone?), executive producer Julie Plec already assured us we'll still see them in season six. "You'll see enough of them to make you happy and more as it goes along. They are by no means going to be off the air for six episodes," Plec told E! News. "The mystery is where are they, what happened, are they dead, not dead, and what the hell are they going to do together, those two of all people?"

Now excuse us while we re-watch this trailer over and over and over again until season six premieres Thursday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. on The CW.
