StarTraks, Getty ImagesAn enormous amount of celebs have doused themselves in buckets of freezing cold water to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but some stars are opting to go a different route.
Celebs like Pamela Anderson, Carey Hart, Shay Mitchell and Zachary Quinto are all fans of raising awareness and doing their part in helping the ALS Association, but don't feel the need to get wet to do that.
"As much as I love the awareness and attention the #IceBucketChallenge is bringing to the ALS foundation...it is important for us to realize why we are making the videos and try to contribute whatever we can," Mitchell wrote on Instagram with a screenshot of her donation confirmation.
"These hilarious and amusing videos need to be followed by action! Visit ALSA.org to make a donation! (If there wasn't a drought in California I would march over to the nearest firehall and make them blast me with a pool full of freezing water...) I nominate all of you to go now and donate whatever you can!!!"
Hart also decided to give money toward ALS research, writing on Instagram, "I went the contribution route. I figure ALS would rather have my money than see me wet. I'll put the water towards washing my bike later!!," but also had a few words to say about the Ice Bucket Challenge on Twitter.
"It's extremely creepy and annoying how obsessed people are w/ this ice bucket challenge. The purposes is 2 raise money for an awful disease," he wrote. "If you are that into seeing people dump buckets of ice water over their heads, go find a wet t shirt contest. Time to find a hobby, people."
Following suit, Quinto posted on Instagram, "in light of the staggering drought in california and the desperate need for clean drinking water in developing countries i opt for donating directly to project ALS in lieu of an icebucket challenge. thanks to @mattbomer and @sleepinthegardn for the nominations."
Meanwhile, Pam Anderson turned it back around and challenged the ALS Association.
"Sorry -I can't bring myself to do your Ice bucket challenge. I enjoy a good dare- It's always good to bring awareness - in fun, creative ways / I don't want to take away from that. but it had me thinking. Digging a bit deeper. I found that we may not be aligned - in our messages. So...- I thought Instead / I'd challenge ALS to stop Animal testing," she wrote on Facebook, and goes on, in length and detail, to discuss the various methods used.
"Please, help scientists make real progress toward treating and curing human diseases by visiting HumaneSeal.org to find and support charities that never harm animals and which pour their time and resources into advanced, promising, human-relevant cures," she concluded.
So far, the Ice Bucket Challenge campaign has raised over $15 million for ALS research and counting.
