Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Warner Bros.' Jungle Book: Origins

Actor joins a star-studded cast for the new film adaptation

From Sherlock to Shere Khan, Benedict Cumberbatch's resume just got a bit longer.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that the actor has been cast as the voice of the man-eating tiger in the upcoming Warner Bros.' film adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.

So far, very little has been announced about the highly anticipated flick—which has been tentatively titled Jungle Book: Origins—but we do know that Andy Serkis will be making his directorial debut for the film.

Also, Callie Kloves wrote the script while her father, Steve Kloves, is on board to produce the darker-than-you-remember story.

The Warner Bros. project is aiming to be vastly different than the upcoming Disney adaptation—which will, undoubtedly, be much more child-friendly.

So far Jon Favreau has been called to direct the fully casted movie, with Idris Elba providing the voice for Shere Kahn.

Disney is set to release The Jungle Book on Oct. 9, 2015, while fans will have to wait until the following year, Oct. 21, 2016 to be exact, to see how Cumberbatch measures up.

The Brit has back-to-back films lined up until then, however, including The Imitation Game, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, Penguins of Madagascar and The Yellow Birds just to name a few.
