Perhaps throwing a party for Hollywood's biggest stars in a parking lot wasn't such a good idea after all.

I just got word that Vanity Fair may be moving their Oscar bash for the second time in as many years.

The magazine's Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter decided to leave the celeb hot spot Sunset Tower Hotel this year for a temporary event space over a parking lot off the Sunset Strip.

"Graydon asked his staff to come up with some other ideas because he thinks moving from the Sunset Tower hurt the party," a source tells me. "It wasn't as hot and chic as it usually is. He wants something with a name."

The party had been held at the hotel since 2009.

Sources tell me that magazine staffers were in L.A. earlier this month scouting for new locations, including the park between the Montage Hotel and Bouchon restaurant in Beverly Hills.

The Beverly Hills Hotel has been in the mix, even though it's currently the target of a boycott because the owner, Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, has enacted laws in his country that punish homosexuality and adultery with death by stoning.

This year's Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres is among the celebrities who have publicly supported the boycott.

A rep for Vanity Fair confirms they're relocating the bash from the Sunset Plaza area, but said they were "very happy" with this year's location. "[W]e would have gone back except for the fact that it's too complicated for the Plaza's tenants to shut down the parking lot for the time it takes to do the build."

The rep insisted that they have not looked at the Beverly Hills Hotel or the park next to Bouchon.

Another source said, "The magazine is looking at places all over town."

The 87th Oscars take place on Feb. 22, 2015, and will air live on ABC.
