When it comes to social media, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West reign supreme!

The New York Times this week published what it was dubbed an "admittedly unscientific look at some of leading power couples of the moment," "where each member also happens to be a star of social media in his or her own right." The findings? Kimye top the list of the most popular power duos on Twitter and Instagram.

Kardashian has more than 17.4 million followers on Instagram, where she often posts selfies (ahead of an upcoming book, by the way) and other photos of herself and her family, including her and the rapper's 1-year-old daughter, North West. On Twitter, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star is followed by more than 22.8 million users, while Kanye, who prefers that social network over others, has more than 10.7 million.

Other celebrity pairs who made the New York Times' social media power couples list include singer John Legend and his supermodel wife Chrissy Teigen and NBA star Carmelo Anthony and wife and actress La La Anthony—a longtime BFF of Kardashian. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and wife Melinda Gates also made the New York Times list (check out the full list).

Kardashian and Kanye wed in May in a lavish ceremony in Florence, Italy and shared several wedding photos on Instagram. The picture was viewed so many times that it broke a world record previously held by Justin Bieber, who also maintains a massive following on social media.

Earlier this year, the fashionable power duo scored the honor of being featured on the cover of prestigious fashion magazine Vogue, which sparked a firestorm of mixed reactions on Twitter and a slew of parodies from the likes of James Franco and Seth RogenKermit the Frog and Miss Piggy and even Kardashian's own sistersKendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.

"They are America's pop-confection answer to Prince William and Princess Kate, and this tabloid-staple duo has mined the outer limits of social media technology to present itself as a royal couple," New York Times writer Alex Williams wrote about Kimye, adding, "Indeed, their social media documentation of their resplendent private wedding in May might have made Charles and Di blush," referring to William's parents, Prince Charles and the late, beloved Princess Diana.
