There was nothing scripted about this.
E! News confirms that the cast and crew of the upcoming N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton experienced something that is, well, literally straight outta Compton when a scary (and very real) drive-by shooting occurred by the Compton courthouse where they were filming last week.
Authorities from the the Compton Sheriff's Department tell E! News that a male, who is not linked to the biopic, was hurt and transported to a hospital but is fortunately in stable condition. Police say it's unknown whether or not this incident was gang-related, but also tell us that an investigation is ongoing.
Filming has not shut down, and production will continue at a different location in Compton this week.
Original N.W.A member Ice Cube confirmed via Twitter in June that the biopic based on the famous rap group from the late '80s is happening, and also revealed the release date and part of the cast.
"Finally found the cast for the NWA movie. Me, Gary Gray, Dre w/ Cube, Eazy & Dre tweeted.coming 8/14/15," the rapper
The studio has assembled its leading threesome to tackle the roles of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and the late Eazy-E. The three parties with approval—Cube, Dre and Eazy-E's widow Tomica Wright—have reportedly signed off on the actors who will play the core members of the seminal rap group. Cube will be played by his son, O'Shea Jackson, Jr., Marcus Callender will star as Dre, and Eazy will be played by Jason Mitchell.
"I'm totally involved, I'm engulfed in it," Ice Cube told MTV News, saying that the film will be shot in Compton. "This is our legacy, you can't play with this, there's no cutting corners. I'm fully engulfed in that movie, very anal about it. It gotta be right."
Straight Outta Compton heads straight into theaters on Aug. 14, 2015.
