Elisabeth Moss could be the missing female lead in True Detective season two. E! News has confirmed the Mad Men star is in talks to join the HBO drama series for its upcoming second season. Moss, who shot to fame as Peggy Olson on the AMC period drama, would round out the four leads of the new season. Other names attached to True Detective season 2 are Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch.

The Wrap was first to report Moss' potential involvement with the series and also reports The Killing and True Blood veteran Michelle Forbes is in talks for a role in the upcoming second season.

HBO has not commented on any casting speculation. True Detective season one starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, with both actors picking up Emmy nominations.

HBO's Michael Lombardo teased that casting news was imminent in July. "The two scripts we have are, I hate to jinx it, but are more exciting than the first season," Lombardo said. "[Creator Nic Pizzolatto has] blown us away with the first two episodes."

Pizzolatto previously teased a female lead shortly after season one wrapped. Pizzolatto told HitFix season two is about "hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."

The Wrap reports season two of True Detective will follow the death of a corrupt city manager in a fictional California city. His brutal murder and potentially groundbreaking transportation deal gets the attention of three different law enforcement officials, reportedly played by Farrell, Moss and Kitsch. Vaughn could be playing a villain of sorts with mob ties.
