Bill Murray is having a killer second act.
Already forever a comedy icon thanks to his work in Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters and Groundhogs Day, et al., Murray had a career renaissance thanks both to Wes Anderson in general and his turn as a jaded actor in the 2003 indie darling Lost in Translation, for which he earned an Oscar nod for his uncharacteristically dramatic (though liberally peppered with humor) efforts.
Now, in addition to being at the top of every director's wish list, the 63-year-old actor is enjoying a new kind of renaissance in which he is more than just a reliably versatile movie star. He's a downright pop-culture darling!
Basically, Bill Murray makes everything better. And while you can easily rent and stream his entire cinematic oeuvre, we've taken the liberty of compiling a bunch of his best moments off screen, which comprises just about every time he's been seen in the past few years.
Murray was the greatest when...
1. ...he crashed this guy's bachelor party and gave him priceless advice...
2. ...when he popped into this couple's engagement photo...
3. ...when he showed up for the "Bill Murray Ice Cream Social"...
4. ...when he dressed like the bard on the Late Show With David Letterman...
5. ...and like Peter Pan...
6...and Liberace for the Late Show's 20th anniversary...
7. ..and a jockey...
8. ...and in football pads to mark Dave's 30th year on TV, which happened to fall right before the Super Bowl...
9...and as if he was hanging out in his own basement...
10...and then spruced up to take this selfie with Dave and Lady Gaga...
11....and wore this playing golf...
12...and tried his best to blend in...
13...and teed off in this hat...
14...and wore this tie and epic pair of pants at one of his charity tournaments...
15...and these PBR pants at another...
16....and when he whipped out this tiny camera at the Moonrise Kingdom photo call at the Cannes Film Festival (you know, while wearing this jacket)...
17...and drove this vintage Maserati with bright-orange interior through midtown Manhattan...
18...and went off-script at the Oscars to pay tribute to Harold Ramis...
19....and when he resisted the idea of Ghostbusters III...
20...and wore this at a Monuments Men screening...
21...and when this happened...
22...or when he joined these folks for basketball...
23...and last but not least...here, when he raised $10,000 lying down.
