Ariana Grande's Grandfather Passes Away, Grieving Singer Says "It's the Hardest Thing Imaginable"

Singer had been documenting his health on Twitter for her most devoted fans

Ariana Grande revealed to her fans that her grandfather lost his battle with cancer last night.

The pop star took to Twitter to share the tragic news, and expressed her gratitude for those who have supported her through this difficult time.

"I lost you to the summer wind," she wrote late Tuesday evening.

"Thaaaanks to my best friends who stayed up with me all night talking and helped me pull myself together temporarily this am. Flyin back home."

Despite his passing, the 21-year-old singer still made it to her scheduled appearance on Good Morning America Wednesday.

"Only reason I made this twelve hour trip is grandps told me he wanted me to always be professional & fulfill my business commitments," she explained on her social media account.

"Thank you for your continuous love & light over the past few weeks…we did lose my favorite person to ever exist yesterday, my grandpa. If only y'all knew how amazing he was…my [heart] hurts so much. It's beyond broken but I got to hold his hand and watch him find his peace."

Grande continued, "This is the hardest thing imaginable but I'm so grateful that I got to spend time with him & my family. Taking care of him & loving him. We thank you so much for the continuous love."

The "Problem" songstress recently traveled to her native Florida around Independence Day to be with her grandparents.

She shared several photos of family members at her grandfather's bedside and thanked fans for their unwavering support.
