Fargo Season 2 Will Be Set in 1979 and Focus on Younger Version of...

Fargo: the prequel?! You betcha!

After FX announced that Fargo was renewed for a second season, featuring an all-new cast of characters in a new time period and a new location, executive producer Noah Hawley offered up even more details at the 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour. And yes, there are major ties to season one.

Likely to air in fall 2015, season two will focus on Keith Carradine's character Lou Solverson in 1979 and the often-referenced case he worked on in Sioux Falls, Hawley revealed.

"He though he left the war behind, but he came back and here it is, it's domestic" Hawley said of the Vietnam war vet Lou.

And viewers will also get to meet "Molly's mother, who was not a character in season one," Hawley said. "We'll learn what happened to her." But fans shouldn't expect the Emmy-nominated Allison Tolman to play her character's mother, as Hawley said, "I haven't considered it. It seems a little gimmicky to me and like cheating."

Also factoring into the 10-episode second will be Ben Schmidt, the eventual police lieutenant played by Peter Breitmayer in season one. "There were a lot of clues left in the first season and we'll do our best to hit those," Hawley promised.

Hawley also said season two, which will begin filming in January, will draw inspiration from the Coen brothers' Fargo, Miller's Crossing and The Man Who Wasn't There. And don't worry, some of the action will still take place in Fargo, as well sa Luverne, despite the main location being Sioux Falls.

So who do you think should play a young Lou? And what about Molly's mother? Sound off in the comments!
