This may be a Plan B project, but it sounds like a grade-A idea to us.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are set to reunite on the big screen for the first time since 2005's Mr. and Mrs. Smith, this time costarring in the character-driven drama By the Sea, Universal Pictures announced Friday.

Jolie wrote the script and will direct the film, to be produced by Pitt, whose Plan B Entertainment most recently produced 12 Years a Slave and HBO's The Normal Heart.

No word on whether there are parts for the kids to make it a full-on family affair, but mom and dad are good for starters.

"I am very happy to continue my relationship with [Universal Pictures chair Donna Langley] and the entire Universal team as I finish Unbroken and begin work on By The Sea, " Jolie said in a statement. "They have created a very special place for storytellers, and I look forward to the continued passion and support they have provided to me as a filmmaker."

"Angelina continues to showcase her extraordinary storytelling abilities in front of and behind the camera and we are thrilled to extend our relationship with her on By the Sea," said Langley.  "Angelina and Brad represent two of Hollywood's brightest talents and we are excited to be a part of their collaboration on this powerful piece."

Jolie told E! Newsback in 2012 that she and Pitt had "an idea" for a movie they'd like to do together.

She referred to the finished product in May, saying, "I wrote something a few years ago for Brad and me. Just for fun. Just an independent little art piece. Because we don't get to do those as much as we'd like. But it's something really small and experimental."

(E! Online and Universal Pictures are both members of the NBCUniversal family.)
