Wells and Milhiser aren't the only cast members leaving the series. Brooks Wheelan announced his departure on Twitter on Monday, July 14. Nasim Pedrad has implied she's likely not returning and will be featured full-time on former SNL writer John Mulaney's Fox sitcom Mulaney.
Wells, Milhiser and Wheelan joined the show prior to the start of season 39 alongside Kyle Mooney, Mike O'Brien and Beck Bennett. Sasheer Zamata joined the show during midseason.
The trio may not be the only shakeups as SNL's cast takes shape for season 40. In June, executive producer Lorne Michaels hinted at changes. "We're still in the middle of rebuilding," he told Deadline. "So there will be changes this year."
