How did she do it?
By now, you've read the surprising reports thatEva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are expecting their first child together, which a source had confirmed to E! News on Wednesday, July 9. The notoriously private pair have neither confirmed nor denied the news.
So if Mendes is pregnant, how did she hide her baby bump? Well, for starters, she hasn't been seen at public events for months. In fact, her most recent appearances took place in March. According to OK!, the first outlet to report the baby news, Mendes is seven months along.
If she is currently pregnant, she may not have have had a baby bump back then, especially if she was in her first trimester, when expecting mothers are less likely to show (and when they're most likely to experience morning sickness). But the actress could have, just to be on the safe side, used a tried and true disguise: fashion. Here are three examples.
Exhibit A: The dress that's got it going on
At an event promoting New York & Company's Eva Mendes for NY&C Spring 2014 collection in Beverly Hills, Calif., on March 18., the actress sported a strapless, lace, taupe-colored dress from the line. The outfit has a sweetheart neckline and piping detail that definitely draw attention from the stomach area, while the flowy, pleated skirt would hide any bumps, however small.
Exhibit B: The "Wow-A-Sailboat!" optical illusion-like dress
A great way to hide a baby bump is to wear an outfit with a print so confusing that people will be too busy trying to spot a secret three-dimensional picture that is no doubt hidden within than to notice a flat stomach, or lack thereof. Here is Mendes at the same March 18 event.
Exhibit C: The expertly-placed handbag & florals
Ah, the old handbag trick. Not relying on the fact that her gorgeous smile would definitely be sufficient to distract any unwarranted attention from a potential belly, Mendes expertly maneuvered her chic, mint-colored clutch to her front while striking pretty poses in a floral Riviera watercolor dress from her NY&C collection at another Spring 2014 launch event, this time in Cerritos, Calif., on March 19.
The colorful print, the full skirt, adjustable belt and a touch of spandex definitely help provide for the ultimate baby bump disguise.
Also, notice Mendes holding her handbag in front of her stomach with both hands at the March 18 event while speaking to E! News.
In any case, Mendes nowadays appears to be hiding her stomach entirely, and is definitely carrying some extra baggage, as seen in a recent photo.
