Forrest Gump taught us that life is like a box of chocolates—you never know what you're gonna get!

It was 20 years ago this week the Tom Hanks, Robin Wright movie first hit theaters, and we've seen a lot of Forrest and Jenny IRL in the two decades since its release. But what about actors who played the younger versions of the film's stars? Well, Michael Conner Humphreys and Hanna Hall are still (fairly) recognizable today!

Young Forest, now 29, pushed showbiz to the side for a bit, opting not to take on any more film or TV roles throughout his childhood. Instead, he grew up and as an adult, joined the Army. Per Fox News, his enlistment ended in June 2008, and he returned to his acting roots playing a soldier in the independent film Pathfinders: In the Company of Strangers. At that time, Michael said he planned to pursue a college degree at the University of North Alabama.

As for young Jenny, now 30? She never lost the acting bug! She landed multiple roles in kids' programs and in 1999, went on to play one of Kirsten Dunst's sisters in The Virgin Suicides. She's consistently worked through the years, popping up in short films, as well as well-known shows like Criminal Minds.

Clearly, Hanna enjoyed her role in Forrest Gump enough to continue on in the business. And while Michael took an acting hiatus, he remembers his time on set fondly—particularly that spent with Tom and with Sally Field.

"Both of them were excellent people," he told Fox News, "just like you would expect them to be. "
