President Barack Obama Congratulates Team USA Soccer Team: "You Guys Did Us Proud"

Players were defeated by Belgium in Tuesday's match

The US soccer team may not have walk away the winner after Tuesday's World Cup game against Belgium, but President Barack Obama is congratulating the players for all their hard work.

"You guys did us proud," he said in a video released by the White House. "To see the way you guys captured the hearts and the imaginations of the whole country is unbelievable."

He added, "I know it's disappointing. But what you guys accomplished is really, really significant."

Obama also formally invited the entire team to visit the White House and meet him in person.

The American soccer team lost to Belgium 2-1 in overtime at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, Brazil.

Millions were watching as the two teams battled it out, included many famous faces like Rihanna, Aaron Paul and Justin Timberlake.

In fact, JT took to Twitter to write, "Heart breaker. Proud of how our guys battled at the end. Tim Howard…WOW #beastmode."

Glee star Kevin McHale also echoed the president's remarks by posting, "What a fight, what a match! Congrats Belgium. @usasoccer you did us proud against all odds! @TimHowardGK u are a god!"
