Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson's Road to the Altar: A Timeline of Their 4-Year Romance!

Parents of two are expected to marry July 4 weekend! Look back at their love

First comes love, then comes baby, then comes surprise baby No. 2, then comes marriage!

That's pretty much the progression of Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson's love story, but now, after a three-and-a-half year engagement, these two lovebirds are finally heading for the altar. There have been some (baby) bumps and blessings (in the form of children) on their road to marriage, but this July 4 weekend, Maxwell and Ace's mommy and daddy are finally set to say I-do!

Let's take a look back at the romantic timeline for the soon-to-be newlyweds!

Early 2010: Eric and his wife of five years, stylist Keri Johnson, separate.

Mid-2010: The former NFL star's divorce is already underway when he is introduced to Jessica at a party. By springtime, rumors are rampant that the pair are dating.

July 2010: The relationship becomes "official" when Jess and Eric are photographed on the island of Capri in Italy celebrating her 30th birthday.

Oct. 7, 2010: Eric finalizes the divorce from his first wife, court documents obtained by Us Weekly confirm.

Nov. 14, 2010: Just days after Jessica's ex-husband, Nick Lachey, announces his engagement to Vanessa Lachey (née Minnillo), the fashion mogul and her Ivy league beau reveal their plans to wed.

Oct. 31, 2011: After being photographed multiple times with a visible baby bump, Jessica finally tweets a creative "I'm going to be a mummy!" pregnancy announcement.

May 1, 2012: Jessica gives birth to a baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson!

May 2010: After gaining a significant amount of weight during her pregnancy (and being bullied in the press for it), Jessica vows to shed the pounds and signs off on a multi-million dollar deal as a spokeswoman for Weight Watchers.

Dec. 25, 2012: Merry Christmas, indeed! Jessica announces she's pregnant with baby no. 2 by tweeting a picture of Maxwell and the words "Big Sis."

December 2012: Her work with Weight Watchers is put on hold.

Jan. 15, 2013: Jessica tells Jay Leno on the Tonight Show, "We've had two wedding dates, but he [Eric] keeps knocking me up!" (Like most ladies, Jess presumably wants to look and feel her best and fittest self when she walks down the aisle.) "We're doing it very backwards, I know," she says, adding that the next time they set a date, "I'll just keep my legs crossed, I guess!"

June 20, 2013:  Jessica gives birth to son Ace Knute Johnson via scheduled C-section.

Sept. 2013: Weight Watchers welcomes the mom of two back as their spokeswoman following the birth of her second child.

Jan. 7, 2014: Jessica shows off her amazing weight loss (estimated to be somewhere between 60 and 70 pounds!) on Good Morning America. "We don't have an actual [wedding] date, but we do know that we want it to be this year. We need to get married!" she says, before joking, "I already feel like we're an old married couple already. Like, if he wanted to run, he could've run when I was hormonal and pregnant."

April 2014: Jess tells Today's Savannah Guthrie she's happy, healthy and well underway planning her and Eric's I-dos. The wedding will "definitely be extravagant," she says, adding laughingly, "I don't do things small!"

June 8, 2014: The future Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have joint bachelorette/bachelor parties at The Warwick in L.A., keeping things co-ed and classy!
