Hieroglyph, the ambitious drama set in ancient Egypt, was set to debut at midseason

Well, that was fast.

And the first network to cancel one of its new series is Fox...two months before the fall TV season technically kicks off!

The network has decided to pull the plug on Hieroglyph, its ambitious drama set in ancient Egypt that was set to debut at midseason, Entertainment Weekly reports, citing creative issues. (Reps for Fox have yet to respond to requests for comment.) 

Created by Pacific Rim's Travis Beacham, starring Beauty and the Beast's Max Brown, John Rhys-Davies, Reece Ritchie and Condola Rashad, Hieroglyph was ordered straight to series back in October. 

Blending fantasy and reality, the series was set to follow a thief, played by Brown, who is tasked with serving the Pharaoh after being plucked from prison. 

News of Hieroglyph's early cancellation comes on the heels of Fox president Kevin Reilly's announcement that he was stepping down as the network's chairman. (Hieroglyph was said to be a passion project of Reilly's.)  

Still set to debut on Fox this year? Gotham, Gracepoint, the network's buzzed-about Broadchurch adaptation, Mulaney and Red Band Society, with Wayward Pines, The Last Man on Earth and Weird Loners set for midseason.
