Survivor Contestant Caleb Bankston Dies in Tragic Train Accident

Caleb Bankston, Survivor CBS

A Survivor contestant reportedly died Tuesday in a railway accident, when the train he was riding on derailed.

Caleb Bankston, who competed on Survivor: Blood vs. Water in 2013, worked at the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham, Alabama, where the accident took place. He was 26.

Caleb, who competed on the CBS reality show with his fiancé Colton Cumbie, was a fan favorite, and the two had said they were planning a wedding for some time this year. Caleb made it to ninth place before joining the jury.

"The entire Survivor crew is together in Nicaragua.  We are shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of Caleb," Jeff Probst, host and executive producer of Survivor, said in a statement. "He was one of the most humble and likable contestants we've ever had the pleasure of working with on the show. A true gentleman. He will  be missed by so many. We extend our most sincere condolences to his family and to his fiancé, Colton."

People first reported Caleb's passing.

"I didn't know Caleb that well, but the few times I had the opportunity to meet him, I was struck by how kind and caring of a person he was," former Survivor contestant Eliza Orlins told E! News. "I am devastated for his family and his fiancé Colton. All my love goes out to them during this hard time."

Caleb is the third Survivor contestant to pass away since the inception of the series in 2001.

In 2010, Jenn Lyon, who placed fourth on Survivor: Palau, died after a six-year battle with breast cancer.

Last year, original Survivor contestant BB Andersen died of brain cancer at age 77.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Caleb's loved ones at this time.
