Attention, all you strapless gown-wearing celebs. Anna Wintour is unimpressed.

The Vogue editrix is utterly underwhelmed with what she's seeing on the red carpet lately, and she voiced her complaints during a discussion with students at Central Saint Martins this week.

"The red carpet, in the United States, has become too much of a business. It's a fact that celebrities are paid to wear everything, and to me that sometimes comes across as very manufactured and not individual. I was just recently at the Tony Awards in New York, and, God, they need your help. Let me tell you, it was a disaster..."

Tell us how you really feel, Anna. She continued, " [Celebrities] have all these teams of people telling them what to do, what to wear, how to do their hair, makeup. And they're so scared of being criticized, whereas, you know, what's wrong with looking different? How many mermaid fishtail strapless sequin [gowns] can we see?"

And yes, while there will always be stars playing it safe in gorgeous—but slightly snoozy—gowns, we can think of a few out-of-the box red carpet hits recently.

Rihanna, for one, wore a nude fishnet stocking covered in Swarovski crystals and accessorized with a matching headwrap and a fur stole to the 2014 CFDA Awards.

So whenever Anna gets depressed by celebrity dressing on the red carpet, she can just look at a photo of good ol' RiRi doing her thing.
