Save the cheerleader's father, save the Heroes reboot! (We tried.)
NBC has locked down its first original Heroes star for Heroes Reborn and it just so happens to be fan favorite Noah Bennett, also known as HRG (or "Horn-Rimmed Glasses," for you newbies), played by Jack Coleman.
"He's back," Heroes Reborn's official Twitter account posted on Monday, along with a picture of Coleman that reads, "HRG Returns."
We don't know much about the thirteen episode miniseries, though Heroes creator Tim Kring promises that it will be similar to elements of the first season of the original show with ordinary people discovering their extraordinary abilities.
HRG was a former agent with the Company, and was also a father to cheerleader Claire (Hayden Panettiere). He originally started as a recurring character, but was promoted to a regular midway through the first season after quickly becoming a favorite among the series' fanbase.
It's worth noting that Panettiere recently revealed she hasn't been asked to return for the miniseries, saying, "I mean, we had nothing, nothing to do with it. It will definitely be interesting to see how they reinvent it." And at the time, she was under the impression that the reboot would center "on a whole new set of characters." (Well, that plan's changed!)
Coleman has been all over our TV screens in the past couple years. He played Angela's husband (the closeted senator) on The Office, and the infamous Senator Bracken on Castle. Plus, he also portrayed Caroline's pretty terrible father (and the show's first gay character) on The Vampire Diaries, and, of course, Sally Langston's doomed (and, again, closeted) husband on Scandal.
Heroes premiered in 2006, and was canceled after four seasons in 2010. Heroes Reborn is set to air in 2015.
