Lupita Nyongo's vow of silence is over!

No longer sworn to secrecy, the actress was finally able to dish on her role in Star Wars: Episode VII. E! News was among the first to speak to the Academy Award winner after her casting was announced.

Nyong'o spoke to Alicia Quarles on the red carpet at the CFDA Awards in New York City Monday. "I was cast two weeks ago," she said, denying reports that she was hired in the spring. "I'm glad it's out."

Details surrounding Nyong'o's character are being kept under wraps, as is typical with the galactic epic.

People's Most Beautiful Woman announced her casting via Instagram earlier that day. "I can finally say it out loud and proud: I'm going to a galaxy far, far away!" the 31-year-old star told her Instagram fans.

In a statement, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said, "It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape." Gwendoline Christie also joined the star-studded cast Monday.

The two join fellow newbies Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and Max von Sydow, while Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are reprising their iconic roles. The movie arrives in theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
