If you believe it, you can achieve it: Andrew of Dallas, Texas dreamt of breaking the record for Most Expensive Starbucks Drink Ever. According to Caffeine Informer, that record was set at $47.30 with a drink containing 48-shots of espresso.
Andrew broke that record with the Sexagintuple Vanilla Bean Mocha Frappuccino.
"The $47.30 guy put in bananas, strawberry, matcha powder, pumpkin spice, and lots of other things that probably don't go well together and definitely don't go well with 40 shots of espresso," Andrew told Consumerist. "They help raise the price, so I can't fault him for the strategy, but I didn't want to go that route.
To break the record, Andrew started with a Vanilla Cream Frappuccino base, then added 60 shots of espresso, mocha, white mocha, protein powder, and caramel and hazelnut drizzle.
The drink cost $54.75. But Andrew got it for free.
Andrew is a Gold Member of Starbuck's loyalty program, so for every 12 beverages he pays for, he gets one drink for free. Any drink. Even a 128-ounce espresso monstrosity (for anyone trying to duplicate the order, Andrew says he brought his own 128-ounce glass).
"I gotta say, it was delicious," he claims.
Thankfully, Andrew only drank about a third of it, as the drink may have contained up to 4,500 milligrams of caffeine. Had he managed to drink it all, he probably would have enjoyed it less, because he would be dead.
UPDATE: Andrew tells us he actually drank a third of the Sexagintuple Vanilla Bean Mocha Frappuccino the first day, and has continued drinking it every day since. $54 split over a week's worth of Starbucks coffee might actually be a bargain!
@jtyboone ~20 shots worth was pushing it the first day. ~10shots worth/day since then has been a lot more reasonable. But #GoBigOrGoHome
