Stone, Wayans Bros. Get Razzed

Basic Instinct 2 and Little Man rack up leading seven Razzie nominations, honoring worst that filmmaking has to offer

Sharon Stone nearly gave them the old razzle-dazzle—she was just one letter, and one palatable performance, off.

Instead, she gave them Razzie domination, as Basic Instinct 2 joined the Wayans brothers' alleged comedy Little Man in receiving a leading seven nominations from the anti-Oscars.

The Golden Raspberry Awards, handed out the day before their Academy counterparts on Feb. 24, pride themselves on saluting the worst that contemporary filmmaking has to offer and, like the Oscars, tend to have some go-to nominees.

Like Stone.

Her (frequently au naturel) body of work has already earned the 49-year-old thespian Razzies for her turns in The Specialist and Intersection, and this year looks primed to double her displeasure.

The repeat offender is nominated again for Worst Actress of the Year, facing off against a bevy of PG-fare teen queens: Employee of the Month's Jessica Simpson, Just My Luck's Lindsay Lohan, Material Girls' Hilary and Haylie Duff, who shared a joint nomination this year, per Razzie founder John Wilson, to "make room for more dreck," and BloodRayne's Kristanna Loken, the dreck Wilson & Co. presumably made room for.

Stone's feature effort also earned a Worst Prequel or Sequel nomination as well as a Worst Picture of the Year nod, pitting it against the equally offensive, at least according to the 737 Golden Raspberry Foundation members who voted for the nominees, the aforementioned Little Man, M. Night Shyamalan's Lady in the Water, the Nicolas Cage-starring The Wicker Man and Uwe Boll's BloodRayne.

As for Basic Instinct 2's most formidable competitor, Little Man, Wilson deemed it "nearly as devoid of laughs as Schindler's List."

Marlon and Shawn Wayans followed the Duff duo by nabbing a shared Worst Actor nomination, but upped the ante with nominations for Worst Screen Couple (the official nomination dings Shawn for his partnership with Kerry Washington and/or his brother).

A Wayans win is far from a lock, though: they face steep competition in the Worst Screen Couple from not only from living, breathing actors but inanimate objects. Nicolas Cage and his bear suit, Stone's "lopsided" breasts and Worst Actor nominee Tim Allen are also among the contenders.

Doing their best to keep the Razzies fresh, the foundation this year added a new category to the mix, Worst Excuse for Family Entertainment—although based on the field, it might become known as the Tim Allen Award.

Allen's Deck the Halls, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause and The Shaggy Dog will vie against Garfield 2: A Tail of Two Kitties and RV for the inaugural win.

Along with the expected fare, the Razzies opted to dishonor a bona fide Oscar winner: Ron Howard's critically maligned though commercially successful The Da Vinci Code earned him a nod as Worst Director.

While most "winners" decline to show up to collect their hardware, some stars can definitely self-deprecate. Halle Berry gamely appeared to pick up her Worst Actress prize at the 2005 ceremony. Berry won for the box-office bomb Catwoman which, not so surprisingly, also starred Stone.

For showing her face, Berry took home the, um, illustrious Golden Raspberry trophy: a gold spray-painted golf-ball-size berry sitting atop a mangled reel of film. The estimated production cost: $4.97. Actual value: priceless.
