And the story behind the alleged brawl between Jay Z and Solange Knowles begins to unfold.

While many were shocked to see the woman who appears to be Beyoncé stand motionless as her younger sister seemingly threw high-heeled kicks and powerful punches at Jay Z in elevator footage obtained by TMZ, we now have further insight as to why the woman in black choose not to take action.

In the shocking clip, which was recorded May 5 at the Standard Hotel after the 2014 Met Gala, Beyoncé remains frozen amidst the chaos before stepping in between the two—only once—in an attempt to intervene.

"There is a kind of law among siblings that you protect them and Beyoncé's lack of reaction is amazing," body language expert Judi James told the MailOnline. "It suggests that Beyonce either agreed with her sister's point of view or she was completely obsessed with protecting her brand."

James continued, noting that Beyoncé's lack of reaction suggests that Solange has lashed out in the past.

"The singer's lack of physical reaction implies that she has in all likelihood witnessed this type of behaviour from Solange before—which is why she doesn't look particularly shocked," she said.

James also explained that Bey's body language implies that she trusts her husband.

"Beyonce is sure that her husband won't react which is why she is comfortable not to intervene," she said. "He behaves like a gentleman, only grabbing Solange's foot in order to protect himself from her kicks."

"However, it is extremely strange that Beyoncé makes such a little attempt to calm down her sister despite the volatile nature of the situation with two large men in the small lift," James continued. "Half-way through the clip, the singer does stand in between the warring pair, which is probably more to stop her sister getting hurt, rather than to protect Jay Z."

Following the brawl, the trio stayed at the hotel for a mere 45 minutes before exiting the bash. According to an eyewitness, Solange looked very upset on her way out and she was being barricaded by security to keep her away from Jay Z. She then entered a car with her sister, while Hov was taken to a different SUV.

"It's important that she glances at Solange and not Jay Z as she leaves the lift which suggests who she is protecting," James explained. "Not to mention the fact that she left in a car with her sister and not her husband."
